Clothes Made From Used Blow-Up Dolls

January 27th, 2011 by Bored Panda | No Comments | Filed in Design

A Dutch artist named Sander Reijgers is recycling inflatable sex dolls into the most bizarre clothing. Perfect for a rainy weather, these waterproof hoodies were made by customizing existing tracksuit tops with heads, breasts and other pieces from 50 blow-up dolls that Sanders received from a “sponsor”.

“These dolls are so ugly and vulgar that turning them into something beautiful has become a challenge for me. The doll is a means to convey something else… it’s near-incomprehensible that people could have sex with something as ugly and lifeless as a blow-up doll. However much air you pump into it, it remains an object that can’t reciprocate the feelings of lust…” says Sander Reijgers.

“The idea of doing something with blow-up dolls came to me after reading ‘The Malady of Death’ by Marguerite Duras. The main character of this novel is incapable of feelings for people, so he hires a woman hoping that sex with this woman will allow him to feel. I do the exact opposite with my work: I remove the sexual function of the dolls by turning them into a jacket or a bag. In this way, the doll can ‘feel’ by performing a normal day-to-day task, rather than through sex…”

26 Brilliant Minimalist Print Ads

January 25th, 2011 by Bored Panda | No Comments | Filed in Design

Leonardo da Vinci once said: “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication”, and architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe adopted the motto “Less is more” to describe his extreme simplicity, by enlisting every element and detail to serve multiple visual and functional purposes (such as designing a floor to also serve as the radiator, or a massive fireplace to also house the bathroom).

Even after 500 years Leonardo’s words are true and this rule is still widely used in design and advertising. It may sound  a bit contradictory, but simple things often require much more brain power to create than the most complicated stuff. And it always strikes you when something completely simple is capable of conveying so much more than you expect.

20 Cool And Creative Sofa Designs

January 20th, 2011 by Bored Panda | No Comments | Filed in Design

Ashamed to admit it, but we pandas are so lazy and bored that most of the time we spend our days lying and breathing air. We are too cute to work, too lazy to have sex – well, you know what I mean..

However, every serious hobby requires investment, and by that I mean getting a really good sofa!

Because we understand that there are many more pandas facing this problem of finding a suitable sofa design, we even stopped lying for a while and did a research.

And here are the results: 20 most creative and unique modern sofa design examples!

Now all you have to do is pick one :)

1. Wall Climbing Sofa

6. Ball Pillow Conglomerate

The outside 9 balls of this sofa are filled with low-density foam, while the other 40 balls are filled with high-density foam. Between every three balls there is, of course, a gap, through which another ball can fit and stay put. Each of the 9 perimeter balls can be squished, put through the gap and let go to expand and stay! (Designers: Cheng-Tsung Feng and Kai-Ting Lin)

Creepy Porcelain Dolls by Jessica Harrison

January 13th, 2011 by Bored Panda | No Comments | Filed in Design

It hasn’t been long since Creepy Tableware by Ronit Baranga made us lose our appetites, but what you are about to see will make your eyes bleed! I used to think that Shain Erin made the Creepiest Dolls, but a British figurine artist Jessica Harrison has taken creepiness to the whole new level. Shain’s dolls are for kids!

“The work isn’t intended to be confrontational, but work dealing directly with the body is often interpreted in this way precisely because of this shared experience of the body, as people can see it as a kind of attack on themselves, as a body is something we all have and recognise. The humour that appears in the work is often my way of balancing this feeling of confrontation, aggression, or what people might see as grotesque. Sometimes people are more open to looking at something that appears humorous, and hopefully if they look for a little bit longer then maybe they will find other meanings in the work.” (full interview: dontpanic)

Little People – a Tiny Street Art Project

January 11th, 2011 by Bored Panda | No Comments | Filed in Design

Every human has his own unique story where one’s life seems to be the center of everything, and one’s problems seem to be the biggest on Earth. But have you ever thought  how small and invisible we are among those other 6.893 billion people who live in our world? Slinkachu is here to remind us this.

You’ve probably already seen these little guys more than once as the project started back in 2006, so we thought it’s high time to look at the best moments.  Just in case you didn’t know yet, Slinkachu is a talented artist based in London (a former art director) who now creates tiny scenarios in public places, then photographs and abandons them – to be discovered by no-doubt bemused passers-by.

“The street-based side of my work plays with the notion of surprise and I aim to encourage city-dwellers to be more aware of their surroundings. The scenes I set up, more evident through the photography, and the titles I give these scenes aim to reflect the loneliness and melancholy of living in a big city, almost being lost and overwhelmed,” says the artist.

Now it’s time to start scrolling down the list, and we hope they’ll make you think and smile.

Creepy Tableware by Ronit Baranga

January 5th, 2011 by Bored Panda | No Comments | Filed in Design

Israeili artist Ronit Baranga (born in 1973) uses clay and porcelain to craft some really disturbing tableware that would probably instantly make you lose your appetite.

Already known for her strange sculptures, Baranga applied her creepy creativity to the kitchen, putting realistic mouths and fingers on dishes and cups.

“I would like that anyone who sees my work feels something – what they feel is not relevant to me, as long as they feel. I hope that the emerging feelings will cause the viewers to think about the ideas behind my work… The combination of ceramic cups with ceramic fingers represent an idea in which the still creates a will of its own, enabling a cup to decide whether to stay or leave the situation it is in,” [1] says the artist.

  • About us

It was in the back corner of McDonalds with a couple of hours to wait for a train home to Norwich, that theDot first came together. Freshly inspired by a weekend at the 4designers conference in London and having traipsed around museums and exhibitions all day, three minds came together over chicken burgers and chips.

The three are currently studying Graphic Communication at Norwich University College of the Arts, where they delve into advertising, corporate branding, design for publishing, photography, illustration and so on. All confident in their skills, but continuing on their learning journey.

We are a new design group hoping to achieve great things

    Meet some of our friends.
