Animal Sculptures Made Of Shattered CDs

March 29th, 2012 by Tomas | No Comments | Filed in Design

Wondering what to do with those old, dust-collecting CD piles on your desk? Australian sculptor and illustrator Sean Avery has a wonderful solution! The artist shatters old CD’s to make incredible animal sculptures.

“My sculptures are all constructed with recycled materials — old CDs, computer hard drives etc, so I classify my work as “sustainable art”. They’re a lot of fun to make, but they take an extremely long time to finish, so I don’t do a lot of them.”

Of course, this is not the only way to use old CDs. We’ve already talked about a French artist Elise Morin and architect Clémence Eliard who had hand-sewed together 65,000 old CDs to create an enormous 500-squere meter undulating landscape, so-called ‘Wastelandscape’.

Underwater Ink Photography by Alberto Seveso

March 27th, 2012 by Tomas | No Comments | Filed in Design

Italian graphic designer and illustrator Alberto Seveso released another mesmerizing collection of underwater ink photographs.

The images were made by taking high-speed photographs of ink mixing with water, but unlike the previous times, the artist mixed two colors and titled his new series ‘a due Colori’. The result is so powerful that I think I’ll be riding these ink waves tonight in my dreams, just like his Ink Riders.

Alberto was born in Milan, Italy in 1976, but has spent most of his life on the island of Sardinia where he became interested in computer graphics and photography. In the early 2000s, the artist moved to Rome to start his career as a illustrator and graphic designer. Alberto has not attended art school and is a self-taught artist.

Creepily Realistic Tattoos by Yomico Moreno

March 26th, 2012 by Tomas | No Comments | Filed in Design

Venezuelan tattoo artist Yomico Moreno creates some of the creepiest and most realistic muscle tissue and biomech tattoos you’ll ever see. Personally, I have no problem looking at these images, but after seeing my girlfriend’s reaction (I’ve never seen her so shocked) I think I have to put a warning.

Caution: Some images may be too intense for some viewers, so if you are a sensitive person, please leave this page now!

Moreno became interested in tattooing at the age of 14 and since then has dedicated his life to it. He says that his favorite style is realism because it’s the most challenging. The artist has been in professional tattoo business for approximately 9 years now, participating in numerous conventions in England, Denmark, Italy, Belgium and Australia.

Jump From Paper: 2D Cartoon-like Handbags

March 22nd, 2012 by Tomas | No Comments | Filed in Design

Have you ever wanted to be a cartoon character? While this is not yet possible, Taipei-based design duo, Chay Su and Rika Lin made a huge step forward by creating a collection of 2D handbags.

“One cozy afternoon, the two girls were chatting, when they got to sketching their dream designer handbag. A surprising idea popped up – “How amazing it would be if a two-dimensional hand-drawn illustration could come to life as a real bag!” They explored every possibility, rendering fantasy handbags in perspective, and giving birth to JumpFromPaper.”

“Despite the slim appearance, each bag has a roomy interior to accommodate personal belongings and even a laptop. JumpFromPaper takes handbag design on a new journey, ready to twist people’s view!”

Imagine: Minimalist Lego Cartoon Characters

March 22nd, 2012 by Tomas | No Comments | Filed in Design

German advertising agency Jung von Matt created a wonderful minimalist ad campaign for Lego which not only looks great but also forces us to ‘Imagine’. It’s great not just because of its aesthetics but because it delivers a strong message – LEGO will put your imagination to work. However, copyranter and adland.tv have pointed out that the idea might be a rip-off of a fan-created Lego artwork that appeared earlier than this ad campaign.

Advertising Agency: Jung von Matt, Hamburg, Germany

Executive Creative Directors: Deneke von Weltzien | Creative Director: Karsten Ruddigkeit | Art Director: Reza Ramezani | Copywriters: Johannes Milhoffer, Corinna Ernst | Account Director: Marc-Olaf Duncker | Accounts: Alex Berg, Bettina Kreiger, Jasmin Mirsberger | Post Production / CGI: The Scope

Stolen Idea?

According to copyranter and adland.tv this image was made earlier than the ad campaign by Jung von Matt.

Stunning Sand Drawings by Andres Amador

March 21st, 2012 by Lina | No Comments | Filed in Design

San Francisco-area based landscape artist Andres Amador creates amazing large-scale sand paintings on beaches using only a rake and some help from volunteers.

“My dream is to do my artwork in locations around the world and to bring more people into the creative act with me,” says the artist.

We’ve already featured some Sand Drawings by Jim Denevan and Snow Paintings by Sonja Hinrichsen before, but it still amazes me how many hours are spent creating something so large yet impermanent as these beach drawings. According to Amador’s website, the artist and his pupils have only 2 hours to do their thing before the tide returns.

  • About us

It was in the back corner of McDonalds with a couple of hours to wait for a train home to Norwich, that theDot first came together. Freshly inspired by a weekend at the 4designers conference in London and having traipsed around museums and exhibitions all day, three minds came together over chicken burgers and chips.

The three are currently studying Graphic Communication at Norwich University College of the Arts, where they delve into advertising, corporate branding, design for publishing, photography, illustration and so on. All confident in their skills, but continuing on their learning journey.

We are a new design group hoping to achieve great things

    Meet some of our friends.
