Real Birds Tweet on Twitter

Finally, justice was served, and twittering was given back to the original source – the birds! Latvian conceptual artist and creative director Voldemars Dudums created a system for birds to type Twitter status updates: all he needed was a three-euro keyboard and some unsalted fat, attached to the keys with stainless steel screws. By eating off the fat, the birds would hit the keys with their beaks and post online!

The birds, mostly tits, seem to appreciate the idea as well, as this innovative bird feeder gives them a stable source of food in winter. The installation itself isn’t affected by cold, either, and is said to work flawlessly at 20 C degrees below zero. @hungry_birds are posting daily from 05.00 until 16.00 GMT, from Sarnate, a small village on the west coast of Latvia. You can find the selected tweets at @hungrybirdsnews. No wonder this Dudum’s idea won the people’s choice awards for Guerrilla Innovation in Advertising!

Worst Twitter Complaints About Christmas Gifts

Jon Hendren is re-tweeting all the ridiculous complaints made by people who didn’t get what they wanted for Christmas. He used Twitter search strings like: ”not getting,” “iPod,” “iPhone,” “iPad,” or “Car” which return all these horrible comments about Christmas and the worst parents in the world. I really hope these people are kidding.

Brand Reversioning by Graham Smith

Do you remember Viktor Hertz who has shown us what logos would look like if companies were absolutely honest? This time, we want to show you another logo designer – Graham Smith, who created a project called ©Brand Reversioning, where he switched logo designs between different companies. In his words: “A Brand Reversion is a brand logo that has undertaken a creative change based on the visual style of another brand logo: Brand identities with a split personality.”

Some reversions focus on two leading competitive brands such as Google-Bing whilst others are based on what Graham feels to be working well aesthetically, or best displays a certain visual identity characteristic such as BlackBerry/Flickr. Even if it feels that something is off, the new reversed logos are so well executed, that one might easily fall for this trick.

Twitter & bit.ly Bookmarklet

Easily make posts from any website to your twitter account using bit.ly. Simply save the following code as a bookmark, then click it when you wish to post! By default it will use bit.ly to shorten the URL you’re currently on!

Mac OSX Tip: Tab through dialogue buttons!

Hey

The one single “bug” on Mac OS X by far is the ability to switch buttons in dialog boxes. For example I mean using Tab to go between OK, Cancel, Don’t Save etc. For a long while until today I had just got used to using the mouse. Although you can use some shortcut keys for Save, but these aren’t always reliable. Windows has the ability to tab through button options. Why not Mac? Well you can and it is blindingly obvious.

To enable you to tab through dialog boxes go to System Preferences > Keyboard & Shrotcuts. At the very bottom there will be an option saying about full keyboard access. Check the radio button that says “All Controls”.

Now when you find a dialog box (a new file in TextEdit is quickest), when you hit tab you will be able to move through the dialog box options. Very neat. As the option at the bottom states if you hit Control + F7 you will be able to change this setting, although I doubt would have to.

Only a simple tip today. But one that has bugged my for over two years. The simple tips are sometimes the best.
