Portraits Made Using People as Pixels

March 1st, 2012 by Lina | No Comments | Filed in Design

American artist Craig Alan creates unique portraits of pop-culture icons using people as pixels. Some of his famous pieces include Marilyn Monroe, John F. Kennedy and the Statue of Liberty, but probably the most incredible one is the portrait of Audrey Hepburn from Breakfast At Tiffany’s.

Craig Alan was born in 1971 in San Bernardino, California. Though he was always drawn to the artistic side of life, Craig’s creative luminance did not wholly shine until his family transferred to New Orleans in his youth. It was here that Craig’s capacity for detailed visual interpretation took root. In this city by the sea, rich in its culture and outlets for creative expression, Craig began exploring his own ingenious impulses. Craig’s earliest experimentation took the form of street portraiture, an endeavor that helped him perfect his flair for replicating the human figure and afforded the budding artist a sense of economic autonomy.

Celebrity Portraits Made Out Of Cassette Tapes

December 7th, 2010 by Bored Panda | No Comments | Filed in Design

If you have a large collection of old cassette tapes and don’t know what to do with it – check out these amazing Celebrity Portraits by Erika Iris Simmons. She probably had the same problem and now she even became famous for solving it! Smart people say that every problem is an opportunity in disguise, and this probably turned out to be true.

Erika Iris Simmons (born in 1983 in St. Louis, USA) uses old cassette tapes to create incredibly artistic celebrity portraits. Since her emergence Erika has blended the concerns and methods of conceptual art with craft-making and popular culture to create her own whimsical installations. She explores the nostalgia of the archaic, using second-hand items as her prime media.

Currently, Simmons lives and works in Atlanta.

  • About us

It was in the back corner of McDonalds with a couple of hours to wait for a train home to Norwich, that theDot first came together. Freshly inspired by a weekend at the 4designers conference in London and having traipsed around museums and exhibitions all day, three minds came together over chicken burgers and chips.

The three are currently studying Graphic Communication at Norwich University College of the Arts, where they delve into advertising, corporate branding, design for publishing, photography, illustration and so on. All confident in their skills, but continuing on their learning journey.

We are a new design group hoping to achieve great things

    Meet some of our friends.
