5-Year-Old Posing As the Most Influential Women in History

May 15th, 2013 by Tomas | No Comments | Filed in Design

Photographer Jaime Moore was looking for inspirational ideas to celebrate her daughter Emma’s 5th birthday, and ended up photographing her beautiful girl posing as some of the most influential women in history. Jaime chose 5 women for Emma to impersonate, and thus her daughter became the mini version of Coco Chanel, Susan B. Anthony, Amelia Earhart, Helen Keller and Jane Goodall.

“I had been searching everywhere for new-creative inspiration for her 5yr pictures. I noticed quite a pattern of so many young girls dressing up as beautiful Disney Princesses. It started me thinking about all the REAL women for my daughter to know about and look up too, REAL women who without ever meeting Emma have changed her life for the better,” says Jaime. “I wanted her to know the value of these amazing women who had gone against everything so she can now have everything. So let’s set aside the Barbie Dolls and the Disney Princesses for just a moment, and let’s show our girls the REAL women they can be,” she explained.

Little Boy’s Dreams Come True With the Help of Photography

April 18th, 2013 by Jolita | No Comments | Filed in Design

A 12-year-old boy Luca suffers from muscular dystrophy, a disease that over time makes his body weaker and weaker. He can only move his fingers and therefore is only capable of moving about in his electric wheelchair, and transferring his imagination on paper by slowly drawing with colored pen.

Luckily, Luca’s physical incapability is not an obstacle for his wild and playful nature. And this is where Slovenian photographer Matej Peljhan comes in handy. Matej created a heartwarming photo series called The Little Prince, where the star, of course, is Luca. According to Luca’s wishes, the boy was photographed as if in motion, revealing his playfulness and a bit of mischief. The photos were taken from above and modeled to look like the boy is riding on a skateboard, playing basketball, dancing, and even flying. The power of imagination is truly amazing!

Where Children Sleep Around the World

April 10th, 2013 by Lina | No Comments | Filed in Design

Where Children Sleep presents English-born photographer James Mollison’s photographs of children’s bedrooms around the world – from the U.S.A., Mexico, Brazil, England, Italy, Israel and the West Bank, Kenya, Senegal, Lesotho, Nepal, China and India – alongside portraits of the children themselves.

The differences between each child and his or her bedroom are striking: Kaya in Tokyo, whose proud mother spends $1,000 a month on her dresses; Bilal the Bedouin shepherd boy, who sleeps outdoors with his father’s herd of goats; and the Nepali girl Indira, who has worked in a granite quarry since she was three.

“I hope the book gives a glimpse into the lives some children are living in very diverse situations around the world; a chance to reflect on the inequality that exists, and realise just how lucky most of us in the developed world are,” – says James.

Children From Around The World Photographed with Their Toys

March 20th, 2013 by Justina | No Comments | Filed in Design

Toys can tell a whole story about the child’s background and family, and even the professions of the parents. In his photo series ‘Toy Stories’, Italian photographer Gabriele Galimberti traveled around the globe for 18-months and photographed children with their toys.

Gabriele would often play with kids before actually starting the photoshoot, and he noticed how differently children from different backgrounds accepted his presence:

“The richest children were more possessive. At the beginning, they wouldn’t want me to touch their toys, and I would need more time before they would let me play with them. In poor countries, it was much easier. In Africa, the kids would mostly play with their friends outside.”

Children also ascribe similar functions to their toys – during his journey, Galimberti met a boy in Texas and a girl in Malawi who both believed their plastic dinosaurs would protect them from dangers at night. And even though the project is about children, photographer says he learned more about the parents – commonly toys represent their occupation and hobbies. Embark on a little journey through childhood and tell us your toy story in the comments!

Creative Dad Takes Crazy Photos Of Daughters

April 18th, 2012 by Tomas | No Comments | Filed in Design

If you are tired of posed, stiff and cheesy family portraits, then take a look at these incredibly creative pictures taken by Jason Lee.

Jason who is a wedding photographer started taking photos of his two little daughters back in 2006 when his mom was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. The girls were constantly sick, with colds and coughs so he couldn’t always bring them to visit their grandmother. Jason wanted her to be able to see her granddaughters without catching their kid germs so he started a blog where his mom could see what was going on in their lives.

Most of the ideas come from his daughters – eight-year-old Kristin and five-year-old Kayla. Jason says that they are never-ending source of ideas.

  • About us

It was in the back corner of McDonalds with a couple of hours to wait for a train home to Norwich, that theDot first came together. Freshly inspired by a weekend at the 4designers conference in London and having traipsed around museums and exhibitions all day, three minds came together over chicken burgers and chips.

The three are currently studying Graphic Communication at Norwich University College of the Arts, where they delve into advertising, corporate branding, design for publishing, photography, illustration and so on. All confident in their skills, but continuing on their learning journey.
