March 14th, 2013 by Jolita | No Comments | Filed in Design

Speakers that are not only good looking but also of a good quality can be hard to find. Especially if you have a knack for something old-school. Christopher Locke creates hand-made amplifiers so-called Analog Tele-Phonographerspurposed to volume up your iPhone or iPad and at the same time to bring out the old times vibe. He designs custom-built loudspeakers from recycled trumpets, trombones, french horns and other brass instruments.

The design concept of an old-fashioned phonograph definitely adds some extra charm. What’s good about these unusual amplifiers is that they require no external power source. You can check out how they work in the video.

How To Build a Rainbow Igloo Using Milk Cartons

January 7th, 2013 by Tomas | No Comments | Filed in Design

Some future mothers-in-law get pretty creative when it comes to testing their daughter’s boyfriends: a New Zealander Daniel Gray came to visit his girlfriend’s family in Canada for the holidays and was asked to build a rainbow igloo in the backyard. The igloo was built out of almost 500 ice bricks that were made by freezing colored water in milk cartons. The whole process took around 150 hours. Even the rest of the family and a neighbor were summoned to help out, all with -25 °F (-31 °C) outside!

Brigid Burton, the mother-in-law, was pretty enthusiastic about her idea to keep Daniel busy: “(I said) to Dan, you know if you want my daughter’s hand you have to complete this, and he did it!” Kathleen Starrie, Daniel‘s girlfriend, said such ideas were pretty typical of her mom: “I wasn’t really too shocked. It wasn’t presented as an optional thing,“ she said with a laugh. Even though Daniel was excited about the challenge, he was happy to be done with it: “It was a lot of work so, it’s nice to actually have it there.” Now that’s a guy, worthy of his girl!

500 milk cartons were filled with colored water and left them to freeze. After removing the paper they would form colored bricks.

Do you remember our super popular list of 20 creative DIY projects we’ve posted a couple of months ago? From modern hair buns turned into a cleaning-day-at-home sort of hairdo, to decorative pom poms looking like floor rags, the results are usually pretty disastrous.

Luckily, the people are able to laugh at themselves, which gives us some hope they won’t be stopped from attempting another DIY project ever again. So, without further ado, here are 20 absolutely hilarious Pinterest fails.
