Pumpkin carving is so yesterday! With stores full of various fruits and vegetables, there is no excuse not to use them for carving.
Russian artist Dimitri Tsykalov uses apples, eggplants, watermelons and even cabbages to create his creepy skull carvings. Interestingly, the artist lets some of the pieces rot then incorporates them into photos together with the fresher pieces.[1]
Tsykalov is also famous for his provocative work using flesh as a medium to send environmental messages like inhumane animal treatment, food waste and world hunger. Born in 1963 in Moscow, Russia, Dimitri now lives and works in Paris.
