‘Cat Beard’ Craze Takes Internet By Storm

May 22nd, 2013 by Tomas | No Comments | Filed in Design

Don’t freak out if you see a friend upload a photo of him-(or her-!) self with a massive beard, which, at a second glance, looks oddly similar to a cat. This is all a part of a new photo trend – a meme that’s called ‘cat beards’ or ‘cat-bearding’. The trick is to have your feline friend in front and covering half of your face – and when the cat looks up, it’s chin and neck looks like a massive beard on your face.

The first ‘cat beard’ picture was uploaded back on July 28th, 2011, by a Tumblr user Catasters, where the guy was touching noses with his cat. In several days, the picture was featured on some of the biggest Internet portals. A single topic blog called catbeards.com on Tumblr accelerated the trend in the early 2012; so much so, that a set of 5 Cat Beard photos, uploaded on May 16th, 2013, got over 50.000 notes in 24 hours. The lesson is simple – cats make everything go viral.

40 More Cool Optical Illusions in Photos

January 8th, 2013 by Lina | No Comments | Filed in Design

Seeing how much you liked our first selection of optical illusions, we figured it was high time to show you more. We’ve spent a lot of time looking for more incredible examples of illusions in photos, and we must say it was much harder this time.

As we’ve talked before, optical illusions are created by our minds which always try to find the easiest way to look at things. At a first glance, we try to relate the image with the most basic and close interpretation of it, and only after a few seconds do we realize that separate details of the image don’t even make sense.

Forced perspective is another common technique: it manipulates our visual perception by making the object look larger, smaller, closer or further away than it actually is. Check out this second selection of incredible and funny optical illusions and see for yourself!

Creative Couple Explains How to Make a Baby

December 10th, 2012 by Tomas | No Comments | Filed in Design

Canadian photographer Patrice Laroche surely will have no trouble explaining his kids about the birds and the bees. During his wife Sandra Denis’ pregnancy, the artist created hilarious explanatory photo series titled “How to Make a Baby”. The creative couple planned and carried out their project throughout the whole period of 9 months, taking pictures in the exact same settings as Sandra’s belly expanded.

The pregnancy saga of Sandra and Patrice basically denounces all the traditional cabbage and the stork stories. In their world, a loving husband keeps pumping air in the station to his wife’s belly until it’s just about big enough to explode. It does, with a big bang, and the next thing you know – the happy couple is sharing a tender moment with their newborn, wrapped in a leather jacket. You can really tell how much the couple enjoyed their road to parenthood, and that their baby daughter Justine will never know boredom with parents like these!

From modern hair buns turned into a cleaning-day-at-home sort of hairdo, to decorative pom poms looking like floor rags, the results are usually pretty disastrous.

Luckily, the people are able to laugh at themselves, which gives us some hope they won’t be stopped from attempting another DIY project ever again. So, without further ado, here are 20 absolutely hilarious Pinterest fails.

40 Incredible Examples of Optical Illusions in Photos

November 22nd, 2012 by Tomas | No Comments | Filed in Design

Some find them frustrating, while others just can’t get enough – optical illusions is something that will always leave you perplexed and questioning your eyesight. We all know the classic young girl turning into an old lady portrait, or sets of geometric figures that turn out to be of a different size than it appeared. Optical illusions are images that differ from the objective reality. But how do they work?

Basically, it’s our minds trying to find the easiest way to look at things. At a first glance, we try to relate the image with the most basic and close interpretation of it, and only after a few seconds do we realize that separate details of the image don’t even make sense. This element of surprise is also what gets us in the so-called perfectly timed pictures: first we see one thing, but then it can be deconstructed into something else. Check out this list of incredible and funny optical illusions and see for yourself!

Hilariously Terrified People from a Haunted House

November 1st, 2012 by Tomas | No Comments | Filed in Design

The Haunted House in Niagara Falls, Canada, prides itself of its world famous Nightmares Fear Factory attraction – and they sure got the pictures to support it. The funny pictures are shot by strategically placed secret cameras which capture the visitors at their most vulnerable stage. Now that’s just doomed to be good!

Curiously, a pattern emerges that guys tend to either hind behind or hold on tightly to their girls when they’re terrified; crunching together is another common natural reaction. You can also spot pictures where some people already know they’re being photographed, and that way try to play the joke on the photographers. What works as a hell of a good commercial for the Haunted House, sure gives us quite some laughs, too!

Hilarious Internet Reactions to the Botched Ecce Homo Restoration

August 29th, 2012 by Tomas | No Comments | Filed in Design

When an 81-year-old amateur restorer Cecilia Giménez tried to restore the 19th Century Spanish Fresco ‘Ecce Homo’ little did she know that her work would become a worldwide media sensation.

At first, the authorities in Borja suspected vandalism, but it turns out that she worked with the approval of the priest.

The well-intentioned Spanish woman tried to restore the fresco, because she was upset that parts of it had flaked off due to moisture on the church’s walls. Using a 10-year-old picture of the fresco, she ended up creating probably the worst restoration in history.

Interestingly, over 20,000 people have signed a Change.org petition attempting to save what some call “a crayon sketch of a very hairy monkey in an ill-fitting tunic.”

To make things even funnier, here are some of the best parodies of the botched “Ecce Homo” restoration.

  • About us

It was in the back corner of McDonalds with a couple of hours to wait for a train home to Norwich, that theDot first came together. Freshly inspired by a weekend at the 4designers conference in London and having traipsed around museums and exhibitions all day, three minds came together over chicken burgers and chips.

The three are currently studying Graphic Communication at Norwich University College of the Arts, where they delve into advertising, corporate branding, design for publishing, photography, illustration and so on. All confident in their skills, but continuing on their learning journey.

We are a new design group hoping to achieve great things

    Meet some of our friends.
