Distorted Scotch Tape Portraits by Wes Naman

December 21st, 2012 by Jolita | No Comments | Filed in Design

One year ago, a New Mexico-based photographer Wes Naman was wrapping Christmas gifts with his assistant and started goofing around with the scotch tape. The artist immediately had an idea that after a year developed into the “Scotch Tape” portrait series, where volunteers put the tape around their faces to create terrifying and just absolutely hilarious expressions. Noses and lips get bent, and Wes also likes to stretch people’s eyebrows to make the eyes pop out – the final results are so bizarre that hardly any retouching is needed!

Working as a commercial photographer by day, Wes says that such side projects help him keep photography interesting. “What I’m ultimately aiming for with my work is to create a catalyst to help people see the world a little differently,” he says. It’s also nice to see how projects that start off so accidentally, eventually take on a life of their own: Wes has already received offers from a local ad agency to use these portraits for plastic surgery centers’ or office supply stores’ ad campaigns.

Blow J0b by Tadao Cern in Leipzig

October 2nd, 2012 by Tomas | No Comments | Filed in Design

Remember one of the most impressive blow j0bs you’ve seen, a photo project by a Lithuanian photographer Tadao Cern? When his pictures of people facing a strong air current received so much attention worldwide, Tadao decided to take this idea abroad – luckily, that’s where New Yorker decided to step in and help organize the project in several cities. On 28-29 September, Tadao did this in Leipzig, Germany, and we’re excited to share his newest shots.

Tadao first introduced this idea to the public during Vilnius Design Week last May, when the visitors in his studio were placed in front of a leaf blower and photographed with their faces completely out of their own control. The series, combined with a very literal and thus witty name, went viral in only a few days. Tadao was featured not only in multiple online magazines, but also in various international newspapers. Looks like all people need in the end is something that makes them laugh uncontrollably!

Tadao doesn’t seem to be planning on stopping here, and if you’d like him to come to your city, suggest that on his website. In the meantime, the next scheduled destination is Oslo!

Water Wigs by Tim Tadder

August 27th, 2012 by Tomas | No Comments | Filed in Design

Commercial advertising photographer Tim Tadder just finished shooting a new project he calls “Water Wigs”.

Tim and his colleagues came up with this crazy idea while working with a mannequin in a studio. They realized that water made cool hair like shapes which worked exceptionally well on bald heads. So he found a bunch of awesome bald men and threw water balloons at their heads to create hilarious water wigs.

Another method Tim used was placing the balloons on the heads and popping them with a laser and sound trigger to create just the head of hair that fit best with the face. He used long skinny balloons for that.

Tim chose to work with triads of colors because he felt that the color adds greater visual interest and makes the images look arresting and amusing at the same time. Tim also tried his own head, but unfortunately was too hairy.

Blow Job by TADAO CERN

May 16th, 2012 by Tomas | No Comments | Filed in Design

Last Friday, during the Design Weekend in Vilnius, Lithuanian photographer Tadas ?erniauskas held one of the craziest photo shoots we’ve ever seen. Visitors to the TADAO CERN studio were invited to participate in an unprecedented photo session called “Blow Job” where a strong current of air was blown into their faces creating some incredibly funny facial expressions.

“I wanted to do something very fun for myself and the visitors, just laugh and have a good time. I was surprised that there were so many laid-back people who were not afraid to look funny! Spacious studio was bursting at the seams and everyone was crying with laughter, laughing at themselves and at each other. Everyone (and there were more than one hundred!) who dared to stand up in front of my lens that evening will remember this photo shoot for a long time and have an extraordinary shot in his album,” said Tadas ?erniauskas.

  • About us

It was in the back corner of McDonalds with a couple of hours to wait for a train home to Norwich, that theDot first came together. Freshly inspired by a weekend at the 4designers conference in London and having traipsed around museums and exhibitions all day, three minds came together over chicken burgers and chips.

The three are currently studying Graphic Communication at Norwich University College of the Arts, where they delve into advertising, corporate branding, design for publishing, photography, illustration and so on. All confident in their skills, but continuing on their learning journey.

We are a new design group hoping to achieve great things

    Meet some of our friends.
