Clever Ads Show That Science Can be Fun

October 11th, 2012 by Tomas | No Comments | Filed in Design

Science World museum in collaboration with Rethink Canada created a series of brilliant ambient and billboard ads dedicated to promoting science in Vancouver.

One of the most eye-catching ones was probably the 6000$ worth of billboard covered in pure gold with the words “2 oz. of gold can cover a billboard”. Two ounces may not sound like a lot, but just in case, Science World hired two guards to look after it day and night. That’s just one example of the clever science promotion campaign. The ambient ads included smartly placed factoids, giving out funny, interesting or sometimes even gross information right on the streets.

The whole campaign shows that science is as cool as you present it. So if your kid just won’t stop yawning during a science class, maybe it’s not entirely his problem..?

Clever T-Shirts Turn Butt Crack Into Sexy Cleavage

July 17th, 2012 by Tomas | No Comments | Filed in Design

Berlin ad agency Scholz & Friends has done the unthinkable. They created a series of clever t-shirts that turn your ugly plumber’s crack into a sexy cleavage!

“Enthusing teenagers to start an apprenticeship in hand-craft trades is everything but an easy task. Handcraft is generally considered old-fashioned and the job profiles monotonous. Furthermore, the “Craftsmen’s Boobs” (also known as plumber’s crack and builders cleavage) is well established as a stereotype for the entire trade.

The best tools to disprove it are humor, a calendar and printed T-Shirts. The Craftsmen’s Boobs Calendar” was created to wish the training companies a Happy New Year of training. The backside of the accompanying letter served as an order form for the “Craftsmen’s Boobs Shirts” with whom craftsmen could spread the message : The new handcraft is more attractive than you think. Following the specified URL, the teenagers found extensive information about all 148 handcraft professions.”

People Flying Over New York City

February 1st, 2012 by Bored Panda | No Comments | Filed in Design

If you saw some people flying over New Your City lately, don’t worry, you are not crazy! To promote their new movie Chronicle, 20th Century Fox hired viral marketing agency Thinkmodo which flew three human shaped RC planes around Manhattan creating the illusion of people flying.

Michael Krivicka from Thinkmodo explains:

“Since the three main characters of the movie have the ability to fly, we came up with the idea of staging a few “flying people” sightings around New York City. We achieved that illusion by having 3 custom-made aircraft (which were shaped like human beings) fly above designated areas in NYC and NJ.”

I’m not sure how the people of NYC who saw the flying people actually felt, but judging from the video, it must have been pretty awesome. What do you think?

33 Powerful and Creative Public Interest Ads

December 5th, 2011 by Bored Panda | No Comments | Filed in Design

Whereas the objective of a standard advertisement is to market a product, a public service ad is intended to change the public interest, by raising awareness of an issue, affecting public attitudes, and potentially stimulating action. Advertising, in its non-commercial guise, is a powerful educational tool capable of reaching and motivating large audiences.

“Advertising justifies its existence when used in the public interest—it is much too powerful a tool to use solely for commercial purposes.” Attributed to Howard Gossage by David Ogilvy.

According to Wikipedia, public service advertising, non-commercial advertising, public interest advertising, cause marketing, and social marketing are different terms for the use of sophisticated advertising and marketing communications techniques (generally associated with commercial enterprise) on behalf of non-commercial, public interest issues and initiatives.

  • About us

It was in the back corner of McDonalds with a couple of hours to wait for a train home to Norwich, that theDot first came together. Freshly inspired by a weekend at the 4designers conference in London and having traipsed around museums and exhibitions all day, three minds came together over chicken burgers and chips.

The three are currently studying Graphic Communication at Norwich University College of the Arts, where they delve into advertising, corporate branding, design for publishing, photography, illustration and so on. All confident in their skills, but continuing on their learning journey.

We are a new design group hoping to achieve great things

    Meet some of our friends.
