Invisible Pedestrian Bridge in Netherlands

However, no magic was necessary this time. Ro Koster and Ad Kil Architects built this almost invisible bridge for crossing the defensive fortress in Halsteren, the Netherlands. The amazing sunken bridge sits within the water and slope surrounding the 17th Century Dutch fort and gives visitors a unique opportunity to walk trough parted waters like Moses.

The bridge was made from Accsys Technologies’ Accoya wood sheet pilling on either side with a hardwood deck and stairs in between. Accoya wood was chosen for its durability, stability and sustainable benefits and is constructed using a tongue and groove method.

Churches Converted Into Modern Family Homes

Zecc Architecten repurposed and converted two abandoned churches located in Utrecht, Netherlands into stylish family residences. The interiors look absolutely beautiful, but somehow I feel there are so many things you wouldn’t feel comfortable doing in here…

Some might think that it is inappropriate to use God’s house in such a way, however according to designboom, “hundreds of empty churches are scattered throughout the Netherlands and since 1970 more than 1000 churches have been closed by communities with over 1/3 of those structures being demolished. Re-use is the only way to prevent long-lasting vacancy or destruction of the historical layer within the city.”

    It was in the back corner of McDonalds with a couple of hours to wait for a train home to Norwich, that theDot first came together. Freshly inspired by a weekend at the 4designers conference in London and having traipsed around museums and exhibitions all day, three minds came together over chicken burgers and chips.

    The three are currently studying Graphic Communication at Norwich University College of the Arts, where they delve into advertising, corporate branding, design for publishing, photography, illustration and so on. All confident in their skills, but continuing on their learning journey.
