Animal Sculptures Made Of Shattered CDs

March 29th, 2012 by Tomas | No Comments | Filed in Design

Wondering what to do with those old, dust-collecting CD piles on your desk? Australian sculptor and illustrator Sean Avery has a wonderful solution! The artist shatters old CD’s to make incredible animal sculptures.

“My sculptures are all constructed with recycled materials — old CDs, computer hard drives etc, so I classify my work as “sustainable art”. They’re a lot of fun to make, but they take an extremely long time to finish, so I don’t do a lot of them.”

Of course, this is not the only way to use old CDs. We’ve already talked about a French artist Elise Morin and architect Clémence Eliard who had hand-sewed together 65,000 old CDs to create an enormous 500-squere meter undulating landscape, so-called ‘Wastelandscape’.

Wastelandscape Made of 65,000 Old CDs

October 12th, 2011 by Bored Panda | No Comments | Filed in Design

If you wonder what to do with those old, dust-collecting CD piles on your desk – don’t even think of throwing them away, because we have a much, much better idea! (Not to mention that it will take over 1 million years for a CD to completely decompose in a landfill[1].)

French artist Elise Morin and architect Clémence Eliard hand-sewed together 65,000 old CDs to create an enormous 500-squere meter undulating landscape, so-called ‘Wastelandscape’ which overtakes the ‘Halle D’aubervilliers’ of Paris’s centquatre.

In the artists’ words: ‘made of petroleum, this reflecting slick of CDs forms a still sea of metallic dunes; the artwork’s monumental scale reveals the precious aspect of a small daily object.’

  • About us

It was in the back corner of McDonalds with a couple of hours to wait for a train home to Norwich, that theDot first came together. Freshly inspired by a weekend at the 4designers conference in London and having traipsed around museums and exhibitions all day, three minds came together over chicken burgers and chips.

The three are currently studying Graphic Communication at Norwich University College of the Arts, where they delve into advertising, corporate branding, design for publishing, photography, illustration and so on. All confident in their skills, but continuing on their learning journey.

We are a new design group hoping to achieve great things
